Embracing the Power of Holy Living: Reflections on Job 29:1-6 (MSG)
The Message translation in Job 29:1-6 gives us these very bittersweet notions that touch very deeply in the pursuit of holy life:
Job is remembered by the time when he could tell that he felt the protection and guidance of God’s presence at the most intimate level.
“Oh, that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me; when his lamp shone over my head and by his light I walked through darkness; as I was in the prime of my days, when the friendship of God was in my tent, and the Almighty was yet with me; when my children were around me, when I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured out for me streams of oil.”
All these words reverberate a soul-stirring realization of how living in a manner reflective of God’s plan and will—that is, a life marked by holiness—brings us into a place of unparalleled peace, prosperity, and divine favor. But the reverberation from Job’s reflections: it’s not that he longs for yesterday. It has the tang and the seal of freshness that one gets off some great masterstroke of painting.
In a modern world with such a fast pace and all the turmoil around, there is a light at the end of the tunnel showing a beckoning call to come back to the time when God was one of the major things in life. It reminds one that holiness is not a dead concept, but a vivid one. Together, it’s walking in the rounded road, bringing self near to the divine, hugging with light and love.
May the words of Job stir us in considering our ways and lining our steps with the paths of God, so that at the end of time, our lives will be so filled with joy and blessed as those that reside under the care of God, and our experience becomes an example of His long-suffering love and faithfulness.
To be honest, we have struggled to live it out in the real sense, but it is now. We seek to embody the very essence of holy living; God’s holiness is not just to take place in the past but a very present reality. go deeper with this message below by Pastor Lanre Peters
