The Advantage of Knowing God
**Introduction:**
To know God is to tap into a source of immeasurable power and profound peace. Throughout the Bible, we see numerous examples of how knowledge of God equips individuals with wisdom, strength, and authority. This knowledge is not merely intellectual; it is a deep, relational understanding that transforms lives. From David facing Goliath to Jesus’ teachings about spiritual authority, the scriptures offer vivid demonstrations of the advantages of truly knowing God.
**David and Goliath:**
When young David saw Goliath taunting the armies of Israel, he was deeply troubled—not just by the giant’s defiance, but by the Israelites’ fear. Unlike the seasoned soldiers, David knew the Lord not as a distant deity, but as a present help who had already delivered him from the paws of lions and bears (1 Samuel 17). His knowledge of God’s past faithfulness gave him the confidence to face Goliath, declaring, “The battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands” (1 Samuel 17:47). David’s intimate knowledge of God empowered him to act when others were paralyzed by fear.
**Jesus and the Misunderstood Power:**
In the New Testament, Jesus walked among the people, teaching and demonstrating God’s kingdom. Yet, despite His miracles and profound teachings, many failed to grasp the power available to them through faith. In Mark 6:5-6, it’s noted that Jesus “could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.” This account illustrates a crucial point: Knowing God and understanding His power is essential for accessing the fullness of His blessings and authority.
**Further Scriptural Insights:**
– **Ephesians 1:17-19** – Paul prays for believers to know God better, that they might understand the “incomparably great power for us who believe.” This power is the same as the mighty strength exerted when God raised Christ from the dead.
– **Philippians 3:10** – Paul expresses his desire to know Christ and the power of His resurrection, a knowledge that brings both suffering and transformation.
**Call to Action:**
– **Seek Knowledge:** Dive deeper into your personal study of the scriptures. Seek to know God not just as a historical figure, but as your Lord and Savior.
– **Share Faith:** Encourage others by sharing how knowing God has changed your life. Testimonies can awaken faith and hope in others.
– **Serve Boldly:** Use your understanding of God’s power to serve boldly in your community. Let your actions reflect your faith.
**Prayer Point:**
Heavenly Father, grant us the grace to know You more deeply and to understand the height, depth, and breadth of Your love and power. May this knowledge transform us, empowering us to face giants with faith and to serve our communities with boldness. Help us to not only hear Your Word but truly understand and apply it in our lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
