God’s Glory and it’s Ultimate Authority
**Introduction**
Underneath in the heart of every believer lies a yearning to understand to the depth the glory of God and His supreme authority over all creation. One of the most compelling narratives which provide evidence that divine power was attained not through mere recorded statements but also the power that lie within the same but most importantly emphasizes the omnipotence of God, His sovereignty over the gods of this world is found in 1 Samuel 5:1-7. That same God who establishes His sovereignty over Dagon, He is very much the God working in our lives.
**The Story of God’s Victory Over Dagon**
The Ark of the Covenant, symbolizing God’s presence with them, was captured and placed in the temple with Dagon, the chief god of the Philistines to whom they had set it before this as a token of their victory.
This was, in effect, hubris, for it was to turn out as an even more profound demonstration of the superior power of God. The statue of Dagon lay prostrate before the face of the Ark, not once. Broken and diminished a second time. A clear message not only to the Philistines but to all who would hear it: no god or power can stand against the glory of the one true God of Israel.
**God’s Authority in Our Lives**
So, here is God at work in history far beyond the old folklore account: the reality check for the pre-eminent worth of God in our lives. With multiple ways to present our faith to be tested with the works in the world today, one may be assured that God is sovereign and no such challenge can ever raise itself against His glory—lest of all in our context.
**Conclusion**
It was the affair of the temple of Dagon and the ark which belonged to the matchless glory and authority of God. In that it proclaims that whatever gods or powers may seem to rival the true God, our God is greater. We need to cling to that truth and work it through our minds. Hopefully, this might inspire us to walk with confidence in faith and the God whose glory knows no bounds.
